I write restaurant reviews at Den Franske Café by Sortedam Dossering and love both their service and watching the chestnut trees along the lake.
When the staff sees me park my bike, they start making my coffee.

People my age talk a lot about plumbing stacks and lactose intolerance, and I’m not strong in those topics. Luckily, I know many younger people – and I have Frederik Bille Brahe to thank for that, because I’ve met them at his places. Like here at Apollo Bar in Charlottenborg.

I like to find a corner and start from there.

The King’s Garden is part of my life.
The cautious ones sit on benches along the wall in out-dated clothes. In the rose garden, the old-money types say “Brægade” instead of “Bredgade”. The lawns around the Hercules Pavilion are full of student pranks and mischief. By the northern exit, you’ll find consciously nonconforming youth who insist that punk is still rebellious. And in the center, there are office workers with sweat stains under their arms.
We always sat on the lawns by the restaurant.

I’ve seen Copenhagen blossom and change. I don’t long for the past, but I love the old monuments.
‘Real’ Copenhageners know the secret shortcuts in the city center: Kringlegangen, Skt. Annæ Passage, and Klostergangen, and the remaining public urinals, like this one by Nikolaj Plads just behind Strøget, not far from Kongens Nytorv.

One of those who helps make inner Nørrebro feel like a close-knit neighborhood is Ali from the corner store.
If he has time, he’s always up for a quick chat about anything, and I always leave with a smile.
Copenhagen is my favorite city!
